Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Polynesian Consortium gets to the end of its first convention which concerned two schools. The approach of European mobility has been changed from an individual school culture to a common culture of European mobility accompanied by the DAREIC of French Polynesia. The objectives were to promote mobility through corporate training periods in European countries, enhancing student’s linguistic and cultural competences in the main languages used in Polynesia (Spanish, English...) and develop skills related to the trainings given in the two schools in the hospitality and tertiary sectors. The hyper distance between the schools and Europe gives a special character to these 20 student mobility and 1 staff mobility. It requires specific support for students from various social backgrounds. The destination countries were Spain and United Kingdom. The steps the students had to follow in order to put their internship together were: - Draw up a provisional work plan: planning activities to achieve the objectives and specific results - Communication plan - Selection of participants for mobility - Looking for European partners (research on the internet hosting businesses, seeking placement agencies) - Looking for other sources of funding, the Erasmus + grant does not cover the entire cost. - Identification of training needs of the target audience: analysis of the training manual for the BTS involved in mobility - Exploitation of the expected effects on the individuals, the structure, the country At the individual level, mobilities conducted were successful in both the dimension of cultural openness as well as the dimensions of strengthening language and professional skills. As for French Polynesia, advertising these experiences with new members of the consortium (a total of 7) and the relay of the local press have helped trigger a new dynamic of European mobility for the 2015-2017 convention. Note that changing DAREIC and strong structural reform of local administration imposed a transition that didn’t allow the full use of the funds of the first 2014-2016 convention for staff mobility (1 done on projected 4, one mobility canceled 48 hours before the start due to an accident immobilizing the teacher). However, student mobility has exceeded 100% achievement to reach 125%, which confirms the new dynamics mentioned above. Both schools and soon the 9 organism, we have to be conscious that this mobility places the student in a double posture: Confronting European standards (legal, hygiene, environmental ...) and adapt to the workings European (managerial, daily life ...) may differ significantly from those of the French Polynesia.
