Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

This Project’s background is mainly represented by the intensive artistic activity that some of our teachers have carried or carry out abroad. The "Bruno Maderna" Conservatory can boast an extensive artistic activity, mainly thanks to the inclusion of teachers having cultural relations with international musicians. The artistic activity that these teachers carry out abroad has contributed to the setting up of a thick network of collaborations and cultural exchanges. Thanks to this network, our Conservatory has started up different typologies of activities, ranging from students mobility for study to teachers mobility for the purposes of music Master Classes and concerts. In particular, our institute has activated incoming mobility programmes for internationally renown musicians who are generally invited on the occasion of prestigious projects within the institute. For years, the project entitled "I mondi della chitarra", coordinated by our Guitar Teacher, M° Giorgio Albiani, has realized an interesting musical koiné by putting into contact different institutions from the Mediterranean Region: Italy, southern France, Armenia. Within the Department of Winds, projects of an international relevance have been activated, namely in the sphere of Jazz and contemporary music. Thanks to these initiatives, our students can now compare themselves and study with prestigious artists of contemporary music. The goals that the project intends to achieve mainly focus on the musical and cultural enrichment of our students: first of all, we aim at enhancing the outgoing students mobility, because, for musicians, it is fundamental to learn and experiment new techniques and repertoires, as well as different music contexts. Our main goal is that of expanding the artistic activity of our Conservatory by promoting events, orchestral concerts, by creating chamber ensembles with the involvement of musicians, teachers and students from foreign Countries. To increase the number of participating students, we are trying to attract a larger audience. Yet, the particularity of musical studies, where the learning of a musical instrument must begin when the student is a child, determines a low number of enrolled students to higher academic studies who can participate into the Erasmus Programme: namely, 144. During the A.Y.2014-15, two Conservatory students have participated into a mobility programme: Silvia Cortini, Clarinet (a 3-month mobilit at ESMAE - Porto) and Ettore Marchi, Guitar (a 6-month mobility at the Real Conservatorio "Victoria Eugenia" of Granada). With reference to the teachers mobility programmes, we can highlight three applications: Giorgio Albiani (guitar teacher) at the Conservatory of Granada; Marco Tampieri (trumpet teacher) at the "I. J. Paderewski" Academy of Poznan; Piero Vincenti (clarinet teacher) at ESMAE in Porto. Among the professional musicians invited within the School of Guitar’s project, our Conservatory has hosted Luc Vander Borght from the Ranieri Academy of Monaco, with whom we have a long-standing collaboration; Johan Fostier (Belgium), Pia Grees (Switzerland), while the Department of Winds has invited Kurt Korner (Austria). The School of Guitar has realized the project entitled "I mondi della chitarra", already at its sixth edition, where a series of concerts have been organized with the participation of the students in an unusual Orchestra of Guitars, in addition to a master class which has seen a large involvement of students. For the project, teachers have made a demonstration with an unprecedented repertoire in a Quartet .The Department of Winds has organized a festival including the execution of contemporary music and jazz by part of wind instruments ensembles and a Big Band where students and musicians have played together. The results obtained have been highly satisfactorily and objectives have been fully achieved: the Conservatory’s artistic activity has been strongly enriched by the presence of foreign musicians from other Countries, who have brought in their musical tradition, in their repertoire and performing technique. The impact on students has been absolutely positive, who were stimulated to discover and compare themselves with different musical contexts. During the A. Y. 2015-16, we have doubled the number of students participating into outgoing programmes, thanks above all to the experience matured with the invited musicians during the master classes, and by playing together with them. In general, the interest in international activities is significantly rising within our institute, thanks to a higher awareness and sensitivity derived from the activities carried out. For the next year, different modalities and initiatives have been demanded by the teachers who have led to the setting up of new inter-institutional agreements. Our outlook for the future provides for a growth and an increasing internationalization process of the teaching and artistic activities within our Conservatory.
