Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Erasmus Plus is the new mobility program of the European Union for education, training, youth and sport for 2014-2020, which replaced, grouping them under only a name, all EU mobility programs . The Academy of Fine Arts in Catania participates in the Key Action 1 and has the following objectives: improving skills, in relation to specialist profiles of the students in particular and teachers and staff in second time; improving the ability to change in terms of modernization and international openess; improving the consideration of social diversity, language and culture; improving facilitation of the less advantaged students; improvement of support and promotion for the activities of learning mobility; improving opportunities for professional development and career; improving foreign language skills; improved motivation and satisfaction in their daily work. Activities supported under this action should also produce the following results: strengthening cooperation with partners in other countries; the institution is committed to ensuring there is an increase in finding financial resources (from a source other than EU funds); improvement in dealing with the target groups, providing, for example: programs more attractive to students, specially made for them with bilingual teachers in line with their needs and expectations; improved procedures for recognition and validation of skills acquired during study periods abroad; more modern, dynamic, committed and professional within the organization; available to integrate best practices and new methods in daily activities; ability to attract excellent students and academic staff from other institutions. Students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania participating in the Erasmus program have remained constant in terms of numbers despite their interest has increased over the years, since the participation in the Erasmus program as part of our institution. Increase students interested in mobility that, however, at the time of departure, or even during mobility, draw back, possibly because of an inability to compare with other cultures and with different teaching methods. Italian students who realize an erasmus mobility choose almost to spend abroad a semester; half of them choose Spain as destination host Institution, the other half is divided among France, Hungary, Czech republic and Poland. While it is growing interest of students from other institutions in Europe versus our institution, especially from the following countries: Spain, Poland, Turkey, Portugal and Estonia. They integrate very easily in the cultural and social tissue of the school and society of Catania, thanks to the cooperation of past Erasmus students that are glad to support their European colleagues during the Erasmus mobility; This integration is facilitated by the creation and attendance at an Italian language course designed specifically for them with funds for the organization of mobility. In recent years we have made several exhibitions of works done by our students who went abroad to study, and by incoming students at our institution in order to provoke a debate about different cultures and how these differences make a circularity within which to develop their creativity. With the creation of a website specially designed and made for the program Erasmus we are improving our ability to be clear and to provide information in a simple, direct and always in evidence. In fact, since its creation, we found a higher level of information and awareness among students and among teachers. Numbers of eligible teachers and staff interested in doing an Erasmus at our institution are increasing , with the realization of seminars and private meetings with Italian students are thus encouraged to participate in the program. In recent years several changes have taken place: institutional, individual and organizational, through which we hope a greater participation of students and teachers interested in cultural exchanges with our partners, whose number has increased and that the wealth of the training always in art it is very wide.
