Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project’s main objective was mobility of outbound students and staff members. Increasing the number of mobile students and staff members is an essential part of the institution’s strategy and EPS. Increasing especially the number of mobile students, incoming as well as outgoing, is both an institutional and a national priority. Number and profile of participants: Student mobility: 11 students. 2 students were on second cycle (subject area: engineering), and attended courses taught in one of the other Nordic languages. 9 students were on first cycle (subject areas: nursing, ICTs, Business Administration and Marketing). These attended courses taught in English at the host university, most also a course in the host countries' language and culture, approved as a part of their academic workload. Most of the students passed all required courses at the host university. Staff mobility: 3 teaching staff members, who held lectures at the host institution in subject areas Economics, Engineering and ICT. Lectures at the host university were held in English. 2 administrative staff members, both coordinators who carried out a staff mobility period at a new partner institution with the aim of creating a good start for the cooperation. Languages used were English and French. For all mobilities, we have seen results in the form of better communication, as well as more activity and increased interest for future student and staff mobility at the participating institutions Effects: Mobility of students and staff members is in general a good way to start a long-term cooperation. Through mobile students, the partner institutions achieve a good knowledge of each others similarities and differences with respect to academic systems, study programmes and syllabuses as well as the students academic strengths and challenges when going abroad. Mobile staff members equally achieve better knowledge of each other and new knowledge which contribute to improving communication with the partner as well as our own internationalization efforts. Academic staff members in particular create better networks which often result in mutual projects and increased cooperation. Mobile students and staff members alike contribute to increased future activity through promoting international mobility in general and their host institution in particular as well as being mentors for future mobile students and staff members On an individual basis, mobility contributes to better language profiency in the selected language, as well as increased cultural awareness and adaptability to new situations in an international context, which is fruitful for future careers and international cooperation projects. International experience tends to create interest for more international experience, thus having the potential for large future impact and spin-off effects. In addition, mobile students and staff members alike achieve an international experience they would like to share with fellow students and staff members, thus also being a major contribution for creating a more internationally oriented campus at home (Internationalization at home). Experiences and feedback from outbound and inbound mobile participants include a different angle on academic contents as well as a comparison of similarities and differences in syllabuses, teaching methods and varoius topics adressed from another cultural aspect. This feedback is essential in our efforts for offering constantly updated programmes of high international quality as well as useful input for how we can improve and modernize both our syllabuses and support systems.
