Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

We are school of trades and operate in the following areas: -Hospitality- Catering -Commerce-Selling - Fashion designing - Pastry-Baking The hospitality students have systematically been offered internships abroad since the opening of this section in our establishment. They leave because this branch requires a great adaptability, an ability to be mobile and a good command of foreign languages. The idea is to promote this adaptability at the beginning of graduate studies in order to guarantee for these young people a degree of openness on the world and to reduce the fears linked to languages and remoteness. The wish is also to develop a curiosity towards the "other" culture. Skills in hospitality are easily transposable - which makes that internships are still relatively easy to find for students over 18 - and young people with language difficulties can easily progress in this area, on the spot, with a good motivation. In 2015, 15 students performed an internship from 16th March to 3rd July :11 in the UK and 4 in Spain. The profile of the participants is as follows: -They are graduates from general and technological "baccalauréats", equivalent of the A-levels. -They have practical sessions throughout the year during which they receive a clientele from outside our organization at the school restaurant. -The training course abroad is often their first long experience in business -In the course of their training period, these young people have the opportunity to work in the following areas: kitchen, restaurant service, floor service in hotel and possibly the reception for the most efficient in languages. Results achieved: -fluency, spontaneity, and a better command in languages. -personal achievement because they are "alone" to face the requirements regarding their professional activity. -an approach to the world of work with the concept of teamwork, human relations and relations with the hierarchy. -a sense of observation with a critical mind enabling them to analyse their practices and to enrich them. Long-term benefits are related to the results achieved: -This experience turns them into Globetrotters: there is a real desire to continue the experience. -Qualities such as adaptability and observation lead to a better employability. -The different personal achievements allow a better communication and a better development of the young adult.
