Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Escola Massana, Barcelona's Municipal Art and Design Centre, is one of the few academic institutions that teaches art at all stages of post-compulsory schooling: Artistic Baccalaureate, Advanced Vocational Training (LOGSE: Applied Mural Arts, Applied Sculptural Arts, Textile Art, Artistic Jewellery, Industrial Modelling, Interior Design Project Management, and LOE: Graphic Design for Printing and Illustration), and a Degree in Art and Design, in addition to Massana Permanent, a continuing education programme. Compared to other European and non-European higher education academic institutions, from the start Escola Massana’s overall strategy has been focused on the belief that exchanging educational experiences from different cultural traditions enriches the educational experience as a whole. These relationships contribute to Escola Massana’s leadership and impact in European Higher Education in the fields of visual arts, applied arts and design. Escola Massana was awarded the E BARCELO59 Extended Erasmus University Charter (Standard Charter and Students Placements) over the 2011-2012 academic year; this charter is valid for the 2013-2014 academic year (Reference: 241223-IC-1-2013-1-ES-Erasmus-EUCX-1). The school later applied for and was awarded the ECHE (European Charter for Higher Education) for 2014-2020. One of the school’s main objectives for 2014-2015 was to increase and strengthen its bilateral agreements for student and teacher exchanges with European higher education institutions; these agreements more clearly differentiate Escola Massana from other European institutions that teach art and design. LOGSE Advanced Vocational Training students at the Escola Massana were able to participate in the ERASMUS+ (E BARCELO 59) programme over the 2014-2015 academic year. Students applied for the programme during their second year (2013-2014) and participated in the exchange programme over the first and/or second semester of 2014-2015 when the students work on their Final Projects. Students studying for their Degree in Art and Design participated in ERASMUS+ (European institutions) and Propio (non-European institutions) programmes organised by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (E BARCELO 02) for the 2014-2015 academic year. Students applied during their third year (2013-2014) and participated in the exchange programme over the first and/or second semester of 2014-2015 while enrolled in their fourth course. Escola Massana hosted students from different artistic disciplines enrolled in European institutions of art and design over the 2014-2015 academic year; the school had previously signed bilateral contracts directly (E BARCELO 59) or through the UAB (E BARCELO 02) with these institutions. The school also welcomed students enrolled in artistic disciplines at non-European institutions with which Escola Massana has a bilateral agreement and are approved by the UAB’s Propio programme. The teaching and non-teaching staff at Escola Massana participated in the ERASMUS+ programme, applying for and participating in an exchange with a partner institution through E BARCELO 59 (CFGS) and E BARCELO 02 (GAAD). Students and teachers from Advanced Vocational Training programmes in Art and Design applied for and completed a student or teacher exchange over the 2014-2015 academic year directly through the ECHE granted to Escola Massana (E BARCELO 59); these CFGS also welcomed students and teachers from other European institutions with which the Escola Massana has bilateral agreements under this code. Escola Massana also managed the OUTbound and INbound exchanges for students in its Degree in Art and Design programme in 2014-2015. These student exchanges are included in the Autonomous University of Barcelona’s academic records (E BARCELO 02), as Escola Massana is affiliated with this University for this degree. The increase in partner institutions and the drive to integrate linguistic, cultural and academic diversity into the training of the entire educational community are unquestionably the most significant results of the school’s efforts. The interest a number of European institutions with which Escola Massana has signed bilateral agreements have shown in future partnerships on multilateral projects, which aim to share objectives and lines of research in the Visual Arts, Applied Arts, and Design, is one of the benefits the school strives to achieve over the 2014-2020 period.
