Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project in the years 2014/2015 focused mainly on cooperation with Turkish and Italian universities in connection with the planned joint archaeological research, as well as the joint implementation of research projects. The aim of the project was to familiarize both researchers and students of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences with the culture of ancient and medieval Mediterranean, as well as to acquaint the Turkish side and Italian with current scientific achivements of the Polish scientists. The project involved two researchers and two students. Researchers (PhD. Blazej Stanislawski, PhD. Tadeusz Baranowski) are archaeologists dealing with the problems of medieval archeology. They gave lectures in their host universities (in Konya - Turkey and Palermo - Italy). Students held practice and participated in classes and lectures at universities in Italy (Florence and Rome). As a result, contacts with Turkey submitted a grant for excavation in Istanbul. The result was a joint excavations Polish-Turkish conducted in the summer of 2015. Our Institute was visited by both researchers and Turkish students. The contacts with Italy helped students to improve their Italian language skills. The visit at University of Palermo brought subsequently signing contracts with scholars in Palermo and conducting joint excavations in Sicily. They are planned joint research and joint applications for projects that would enable further funding of Polish-Italian research. The result was also the international scientific conference in Wroclaw with the participation of scholars from Palermo. It has been prepared a project proposal to HERA competition 2015 (together with University at Catania).
