The University of Macerata is a small University of the center of Italy, one of the oldest European universities (founded in 1290) which focuses its activities in the fields of humanities and social sciences. One of the main strategic objectives of the University of Macerata it is to develop internationalization and to open to the world by increasing and strengthening international networks from the perspective of social cohesion at the international level. The role of the European Union is considered crucial within the frame work of an international strategic development plan of the University, the future development plans in mobility, curriculum development, networks, etc .. Equally strategic for the University of Macerata are: quality control and the evaluation of the investment, the level of internationalization of administrative staff, teachers and students; measures to ensure the full recognition of the study period abroad; the development of transnational projects; the use of foreign languages in teaching and research; strategies to combat social inequalities as well as inequalities of gender and race; the strategies for the implementation of the Bologna process; the implementation of the Erasmus Policy Statement in the institution. Therefore the Erasmus+ Programme is perfectly in line with the strategic objectives of the University of Macerata. The project has helped and helps students, faculty and administrative staff to gain more skills and to enhance the quality of teaching. Thanks to the possibility to study, teach and work in other European realities the Programme has helped the University of Macerata in the modernization of its education and training skills, making them more innovative. It has helped to promote and sustain the participation of students in society by building a European dimension. The project provided students with the opportunity to study, train, carry out work experience abroad, extend their language learning and to obtain recognition for their skills. For the academic year. 2014/2015 207 Erasmus students study and 104 Erasmus Traineeship participated in the Erasmus program, making a total of 311 students. In this context it should be noted a significant increase of mobility for placement of 22% only in the 14/15 academic year. Teachers have had the opportunity to develop skills in teaching and research on a European basis, improve language learning, share teaching methods with other teachers of the partner universities, in order to implement best practices and promote in students the most innovative and qualitative learning experience. For the academic year. 2014/2015 29 teachers and 3 members of the administrative staff took part in the Erasmus initiatives. The impact of the project was important for the University, for its territory and to the local stake holders. Outgoing Erasmus students out of the total number of student population of the University of Macerata is 3,11% Incoming Erasmus students that come to study in the University of Macerata have increased in recent years and this represents a good opportunity to spice up the territory from the economic point of view.
