Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

1. Context ESCP Europe has been participating in the European mobility projects for over 25 years. In 2013 we were awarded with the new charter for Erasmus + projects from 2014 to 2020. Students taking part in the mobility programmes are registered in our Master in Management (MiM) degree, also called “Programme Grande Ecole”. They have different educational backgrounds : “classe préparatoire”, engineering schools or other university degrees in social or political sciences. As a whole, the MiM is a very international programme. More than half of the students are international and represent 90 nationalities. Some of the students are in the apprenticeship programme or in the accessibility programme for students from underprivileged backgrounds. Going on an exchange programme, a dual degree or doing an internship is part of the students’ curricula. 2. Projet realisation, impact, and benefits For the academic year 2014-2015, ESCP Europe received European funding for the higher education mobility programme. In spite of our initial prognostics the number of students going abroad lowered from 70 to 41 because one the one hand, Switzerland exited the Erasmus + programme. On the other hand, our exchange programme selection is done only once per year. Thus, we decided to put an emphasis on the internship mobility part of the contract. Therefore, this year we saw the internships number grow, and a different kind of student applied for the scholarships: international dual degree students. This is due to our different promotional actions such as the internships forum with an Erasmus + booth, or weekly meetings with the dual degree students. This year, in 2015-2016 we are close to reaching our goal in terms of internship mobility. For the academic mobility we can also see the impact of our international actions (International Fair, presentations, and other academic events) since we registered 55 students for 2015-2016 versus 41 in 2014-2015, which represents a 35% growth. The 2014-2015 year was also an important year for staff mobility. On the one hand we had more professor mobility than before, and on the other hand we received more staff training projects. Although, not all of the projects were finalized due to the academic schedule, we can see that the staff is considering more and more training in the European Union. In the long term we will develop promoting and supporting staff mobility with the Erasmus + programme. In terms of impact, we can see that participants coming back from an exchange with the Erasmus + programme wish to contribute to the international and European life of the institution. They often enroll in international associations or clubs, or wish to work more closely with the International Partnerships Department. They are also more caring of the international students and their integration, thus improving the incoming exchange quality for both staff and students. Therefore, the initial goals to reinforce the European spirit and to encourage mobility are reached. Ultimately, it is the participants themselves who become the best ambassadors of the programme. For students, the benefits mainly include the acquisition of new skills, whether managerial, linguistic, intercultural or simply social skills. For staff, on top of the linguistic and intercultural benefits, we can see a general improvement of work conditions through benchmarks, the sharing of best practices, and a deeper knowledge of our European partners. Overall, we find that a European mobility also deepens the participants’ attachment to Europe and its values.
