Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project (E MADRID 35) met all the objectives of Erasmus Charter for Higher Education and the grant agreement. We were granted three STT and four SMP. The Erasmus Project is on the Annual General Programme of the educational institution. The Erasmus Project is presented in the Faculty and in the School Board and is known in the educational community. To request a number of mobilities each department is consulted and the project is presented in each group of students of 1st year. This is possible because we are a small school. The STT mobilities consists of on-site training in European companies of the sectors present in the school, in order to know the education system and vocational training in the country; Knowing the professional field and learning from the work systems used in the country of destination: Knowing the specific software used in the companies and to contact these companies for possible future practical training of our Erasmus students. Out of the total of three STT mobilities granted only two were made. These mobilities took place in the GIANNINA GASLINI Paediatric Hospital of Genova (Italy), a high grade educational institution and quality leader in Italy. The experience in the Pathology and Radiology services was very positive for the two teachers and their expectations were highly fulfilled. The SMA mobilities consist on the performance of 13-weeks of the FCT module (internships in companies) in a European company with the objectives of completing their training, assessing the knowledge acquired at school, improving their language skills and promoting their employment, either in the country where they carry out these practices or in any other European country that valued Erasmus as a positive experience in the curriculum vitae of the student. The standard procedure was followed to perform the SMP mobilities. The project was submitted in each group of students of 2nd year (which are those who can do it); the assessment of competence in English was performed by a written test and an oral test, in collaboration with the Department of English; the academic files of the candidates were compared and the assessment of the maturity was requested from the educational teams who knew them from the previous year. Four students were shortlisted. Of these, three left the project for various reasons, one being the family's economic situation and the incapacity to address the cost of the stay only with the Erasmus scholarship. The 4th student did not pass the course and was unable to make mobility. In this case, the need to work while she was studying was also an important factor. Consequently, the SMP mobility was not performed in this period. This Erasmus project is considered very important in the IES San Juan de la Cruz and has the backing of the management team and the educational community and has great interest among students, who often ask for it, although there are years when external conditions overcomes our expectations.
