Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Department of Culture, Education and OU, General Directorate of Education, Vocational Training and Educational Innovation (DXEFP), is the agency responsible for education in Galicia; its mission is to organize and coordinate education in Galicia. Part of their activity is the implementation of regional initiatives to achieve the improvement priorities in education and support innovation in education centres, apprenticeship schemes and school leadership. In vocational training, the DXEFP has developed various projects to modernize and adapt to the economic and productive situation in Galicia. It has also performed a series of actions to bring the Department and the education centres closer to the companies and their representative organizations, thereby contributing to social dialogue concerning vocational training. This is considered an important step in facilitating the integration of young graduates into the labour market. In language learning, the DXEFP has made a strong commitment in recent years, having already achieved good results in improving the foreign language skills of teachers – an area where there has been exponential growth - and also with teachers teaching their subject in a foreign language. Training the teachers is thereby the first step in students’ language training. The DXEFP already has experience of running European programmes. At this time, it is the promotor of the Multilateral Project - Key Activity 2: Languages, "Improve Employability and Enhance European Competitiveness Through the Acquisition of Language and Cultural Competences in Portuguese / EMPORT" which is currently under development. It was also the promoter of the ARBAX: Against racial bullying and Xenophobia Project, a Comenius Multilateral Project. It has also promoted a project focused on the development of a Chinese language and culture course (www.chinesecom.eu) and has coordinated various Leonardo da Vinci and Comenius mobility projects, as well as being promoter of several Comenius Regio projects. The main objectives assigned to the consortium are the following: - Contribute to the creation of the European Higher Education Area. - Promote cooperation between higher education institutions and companies. The project’s target group are higher vocational students studying in the institutions which make up the consortium. To achieve the global objectives assigned to the project, the consortium´s concrete and specific goals for participating students are the following: - Complete the academic education of students with knowledge and practical skills that will facilitate their entry into the labour market; - Improve communication skills in a foreign language; - Understand the social, labour and business situation in another European country; - Acquire a greater ability to adapt to a social and labour situation different to that in Spain; - To acquire a greater understanding of European citizenship. The total number of mobility actions has been 27 students from the centres in the consortium; all students are in the second year of higher vocational training courses in various fields. The main mobility activities that have been undertaken during this period are training internships of 2 to 3 months duration; these have served to provide greater capacity when navigating the current fully globalized job market. Once they enter the labour market they can contribute the skills and abilities (professional, linguistic and personal) acquired during the programme to the company. The consortium expects the final main impact to be the possibility of students increasing their chances of integration in the current job market. The global impact will be achieved mainly through improving their language skills, completing their academic training and developing their personal skills and competences.
