Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Aix-en-Provence school of art has a long and rich practice of international exchanges, based on its multicultural artistic project opened to the world. The school regularly welcomes foreign artists for workshops and organizes workshops abroad. In 2014, 3 workshops took place in partner schools in the USA, China and Egypt, gathering students and teachers around shared artistic projects. Students mobility, both incoming and outgoing, thus takes place in the frame of an intercultural project, in line with the teaching of the school in all the fields of contemporary art and more specifically around the links between art, science and technologies. Outgoing students mobility is organized in 4th year only (Master's degree), either as mobility for studies in one of our 25 partner schools in Europe and beyond, ( first semester of the 4th year) , or mobility for training (average of 2 months during the first semester of the 4th year). Since 2014, with the Erasmus + charter, the international training development has been reinforced. International mobility experience is thus part of the Master's curriculum. Though encouraged and promoted, this period abroad is not compulsory. It is based on the student's project and individual application. Students prepare their applications during the 3rd year ( CV, portfolio and motivation letters), expressing their wishes in terms of study or training abroad, in line with their artistic project. The applications are reviewed by an international mobility committee composed of teachers and direction, in order to assess the relevance of the application with the student's artistic and research project. Only the students who pass their 3rd year degree and are accepted in Master's degree at ESAAix may finally benefit from the international exchange programme. The mobility experience is fully part of the curriculum as a means to gain professional experience, autonomy, communication skills and resource for development of the Master's project. In 2014, There were 26 students in the third year. 11 out of the 26 applied for a mobility abroad . Out of the 11 applications, 8 projects were validated : 5 in Europe, 3 out of Europe ( China and Canada). 5 students thus benefited from the Erasmus + mobility programme for studies, in 4 different partner schools in Germany, Belgium and Portugal. Out of the 5 erasmus students, 2 students did not benefit from the Erasmus grant, because they were eligible to a regional grant ( Prame ES, paca Region). Later in the academic year, one mobility for training was finally organized, but outside the Erasmus programme, in Korea. The incoming mobility fluxes included 5 international students in 4th year coming from partner schools in Egypt, China, Turkey, Germany. Two students were welcomed in the frame of the Erasmus + programme , from HfBK Saarbruck ( Germany) and Yildiz Technical University ( Istanbul Turkey). In quantitative terms, the fluxes of incoming and outgoing students are satisfactory, balanced, in the average figures of the school ( total of 140 students) and in line with the multidisciplinary approach of the teaching programme. The exchanges of students are indeed based on interinstituional agreements answering the variety of artistic mediums practiced by our students. In terms of quality, the outgoing students were all very satisfied with their mobility, answering their needs and diversifying their approaches and practices. The incoming mobility was satisfying as well, although it evidenced a need of closer coordination and communication with our Turkish partner , related to the selection of students towards our school , in order to answer better the artistic and educational needs on both sides. Outgoing teaching mobility did not happen in 2014. The international projects of the teaching team focused on countries outside Europe. Yet, we managed to use the programme in order to invite a guest professional artist ( Greek sound artist based in England) in order to propose a sound art workshop for Master's students, in relation with Locus Sonus, sound art research studio of the school ( research it in sound art). This incoming mobility was fully satisfactory, answering the artistic and educational needs on both sides. Part of the results will be showed in the frame of a sound art festival taking place in Aix-en-Provence and Marseilles , Mobil audio Fest, between 19th and 22nd November 2015 ( www.ecole-art-ix.fr)
