Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

IES El Rincón (www.ieselrincon.org) is located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. IES El Rincón is a public institution which offers Secondary Education and Upper Secondary Educacion, and also, Vocational Training and Higher Vocational Training studies. Our Higher Vocational Training studies are: System Administration and Networking, Web Software Development, and Multiplatform Software Development. These courses are two years long, making a total of 2000 hours. As part of their training, our students have to undertake a two-month period of practices in companies in order to implement their acquired knowledge. When students finish their practices, they obtain 22 credits (ECTS). Companies have to certificate that all tasks have been submitted. In Eramus+ Program, we have two main goals. On the one hand, encouraging our students to undertake their practices in companies in European Union countries. On the other hand, improving and completing our teacher?s training in European Union countries. In addition, Erasmus+ Program offers a great opportunity to internationalize our institution and to share educational experiences with other higher education institutions as well as increasing the level of the students and teachers in foreign languages. One essential aim of our institution has always been to participate in mobility projects and strategic partnerships such as Erasmus, Comenius, Grundtvig, Leonardo and eTwinning. By this way, we have been receiving teachers and students from many European institutions. IES El Rincón obtained Erasmus Charter for Higher Education for the periods 2009-2013 and 2014-2020. IES El Rincón has currently 79 teachers and 1165 students. 615 of them are studying vocational training programs and 400 of them have been able to participate in the Eramus+ Program 2014-2015 because they are studying some of our higher vocational training programs. 16 applications were submitted, but only 8 were chosen according to several selection criteria posted on our website. In general, our students chosen have working experience and even, other vocational training studies. Many of them have come back to study because of the present economic crisis. The 8 students chosen to be part of the program were enrolled in different workshops with the objective of increasing their communicative competence in English, becoming familiar with the culture of the countries included in the program and having counselling as to how to apply for the Cabildo of Gran Canaria grant and prepare all the paperwork required by the program. Moreover, former Erasmus students exchanged their experiences in order to motivate our current Erasmus students and after that, each student was interviewed using Skype by the person who will supervise their practices in the companies in Krakow and Malta. This year we have achieved 8 student mobilities and 3 teacher mobilities, that is, 100% of the mobilities that could be granted. Therefore, our students undertook practices in Polish and Maltese companies. These companies were Geosys in Malta and HOQS, APPLANDEO and IT VISION in Poland. Our students have successfully completed all the tasks required by the previously mentioned companies. During their practices, monitoring and communication with the students was possible via email, WhatsApp and through a blog which they had to create. When they finished this period, they submitted a final report which was later posted on their blogs. Regarding our teachers, 3 of them visited Poland where a company called Proyecto Ibérico based in Krakow conducted some training sessions devoted to IT in the labour market. As a result, they established collaboration agreements with several companies involved in the new technologies sector. In addition, they visited some institutions which also offer vocational training studies and could learn about the Polish educational system.
