Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

ESEI Maria Ulrich is a private College founded 61 years ago pioneer in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education in Portugal. Our college offers courses of initial and post-graduate training of Early Childhood Educators and Elementary school teachers, supports educational projects and promotes permanent education activities for professionals in the education’s area. The project for the academic year 2014/2015 reinforces the objectives of previous years and those mentioned in ECHE: to provide opportunities for students to study in other partner countries communing an European philosophy opening great opportunities for the future. The opportunity to be part of this huge European family is given to all students. Our IES believes that this experience enriches each individual but also a school community in constant development. Each academic year we encourage students and teachers to benefit from the mobility action by promoting information sessions, presentations and exhibitions on study abroad for outgoing students, teachers and staff. This kind of approach is essential for the Erasmus aims bringing students and staff together in the mission of respecting one another and finding the great potential in differences between people around Europe and the World. This year we had three students to go abroad: 2 degree in basic education and one of the master's degree in preschool education; 2 teachers in special education and 2 specialized staff in libraries. Two of the 3 students have applied to carry out their mobility in Throndheim, Norway; 1 student applied to Boras, Sweden. It is very interesting to highlight the different reasons for students to take up this challenge: for the two students enrolled in the 1st cycle of studies was an adventure and a desire to know the pre Norwegian school education and for the student of the 2nd study cycle was like a pre-professional and personal fulfillment. Regarding the mobility of teachers, Norway was the chosen country to present a research work and share experiences in the field of special educational needs. The two staff people wanted to have contact with different ways of organizing a library, to know the type of work being done with students and to obtain knowledge from good practice abroad. After the selection of candidates, there is a time for mobility mentoring with scheduled sessions where they talked about booking travel, accommodation and share the objectives of mobility. This year it was not possible to match the two types of mobility due to extra work for teachers in ESEI not allowing its realization as in previous years. In this way, students and teachers could not make use of a common time to talk and share experiences in the host country. In general both students and the staff had a positive experience enriching their personal and professional dimension. They all were enthusiastic people in the communication and promotion of this experience to future candidates.
