Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The participation in the EU-Programme Erasmus+ is one of the core elements in the internationalisation strategy of Witten/Herdecke University. Under the current project most of the inter-insitutional agreements from the predecessor program LLP/Erasmus 2007-13 could be renewed. In addition, a number of new partnership agreements have been signed. In sum the number of Erasmus partners was increased. Further, most of the applications for a study abroad under Erasmus+ could be awarded an Erasmus fellowship. Witten/Herdecke University has three faculties for which a total of 35 Erasmus agreements have been signed providing around 70 places for student exchange. These places have been offered to Witten/Herdecke students in an internal call. The conditions have been published on UWH's website as well as in information sessions for students and via email. As a result, 18 students have been awarded a study exchange with Erasmus and an additional 12 applications for traineeships have been approved. Two of these mobilities had a duration of ten month, the larger part was between two and five month. In tendency, students of Bachelor and Master programmes applied for a study exchange whereas students from state examination study programms were more interested in trainneships. This tendency is in line with the Faculties' intent and the structure of UWH's study programmes respectively. There were no applications for mobilities with special needs. For strengthening one particular cooperation a staff exchange for teaching was successfully arranged. OS funds have been used to support welcome events and activities for the integration of exchange students. In addition, German language support for exchange students during their mobility has been offered. Incoming students highly welcomed these supporting activities.
