Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Sep 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Hasan Kalyoncu University is a small campus in the city of Gaziantep. This city is the last big metropolis before to encounter the Syrian border and in the last 5 years experimented a lot of changes. These changes affected the emotions and the knowledge of the young generations in a negative way. Their perspective of what is international is generally negative in this generation, because it is somehow related with war, displacement, poorness, refugees and tragedy. Also generally speaking this territory is quite much far away from European centers and Europe as an Union of Nations, Values and Goals is not known and percieved as we may think it would or should. In this context, Erasmus Project is fundamental to allow students and Staff to embrace other cultures and make a positive outcome out of it. The opportunity to go in another university or in a company/institution in Europe, gives a great variety of chances to them. We completed in the last year 47 mobilities with success. 29 Students had the chance to attend one semester in another university and succesfully learn new approaches to subjects. Once back the students created a network to help the other Erasmus students in processes and applications and so the Erasmus Project created here a family feeling among these students that were originally from other departments and not engaged in friendships. More than that, our university has 200 foreign students, mostly Syrians. these program also helps the integration of these students because the Erasmus Students are more into speaking another language. 9 Students completed their traineeship of generally 2-3 months in a company abroad. The reports of the compay are enthusiastic about the motivation of the students. We noticed that giving Pre-departure workshops to the students about the Languages and application processes was not enough so we designed a Tutor/ Big Brother program. Former erasmus Students take care of the new ones and help them step by step in the process indicating them the right way to deal with the consulates, save money, make new friendships etc.. For what concerns the Staff, our teachers are very interested especially in Trainings abroad more than teaching because their curiosity and willing to extend their culture is broader than the desire to teach. We also hosted two teachers last semester to give seminars about the Economics of balcanic Europe and Turkey. The intention of the university is to improve the internationalization and the Erasmus Program is decisevely extremely effective in this perspective, helping a small campus to be more international.
