Hétköznapi Európa
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Under the framework of " Everyday Europe" the Hungarian Szentendrei Református Gimnáziumért és Kollégiumért Egyesület and the German Jugendaustauschwerk im Kreis Gütersloh e.V. organise a meeting of 20 German students, accompanied by two German teachers, with 20 Hungarian students in Szentendre (all students are around16 years of age) in September 2014. They are planning to explore and present together that the European Union is not a distant, uninteresting political institution, but it is part of their everyday life. Students are intended to realise that Europe is our common place of living, where they have and can practise the rights of the citizens of the Europen Union. The theme of the project is crucially important in regards of the election of the Parliament of the EU, since the decisions made in the EU Parliament have more and more direct effect on the everyday life of European teenagers. Within the program they can understand what it means to be a European citizen and they can imagine their future in our common Europe. While working on different aspects of everyday life in the EU the participants can form their opinion and expectations connected to the EU, the can realise the effects of the EU on their everyday life, family, their studies and society. All this is planned to be acquired on an informal way where the EU is not a study material but experience: they will visit Hungarian Eu Institutes, they will take part in interactive programmes and lectures connected to the topic, they can learn about their rights, study and working possibilities as EU citizens, they will visit PÉcs, the old cultural capital of Europe, they will interview people about how much they know about and make use of the EU citizenship, they directly experience the presence of the EU and its cultural references. The participants are planned to take an active part in theplanning and the organisation of the program. Many of the elements of the program have already been suggested by them, such as the Szentendre sightseeinng quiz, or the intercultural party. The participants will choose their fields of interest in which they wish to work together in groups or pairs. Creativity and individual approach are supported during the process of the project work. During the project the teenagers of both counrties are planned to work actively together, they will have to present their aspects of living in the European Union by an individually chosen and made end- products such as presentations, photo albums, t-shirts,digital news, board games or maps. The projectwork will be supported by a frame program which introduces the country and the citizens of the parttaking countries. Besides the development of th EU awareness it is also a very important aim of the project to improve the intercultural competence of the youngsters of the two countries, they get to know each other during everyday life, therefore the German students stay with host families in Hungary, they can reflect on their daily experiences, chat with host families so they can experience other aspects of life as well. Furthermore students involved in the project will take part in different kinds of activities, discussions and games, they can exchange opinions, learn from each other, so a mutual understanding and respect may be formed. The students will learn about the history and the cultural characteristics of both countries, mostly with the help of museum pedagogical help. Meanwhile they will learn about the similarities and differences of the two countries which will help them to know how to approach and communicate with their peers from a different cultural and social background.
