Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The main aim of the project is to strengthen literacy in its broadest sense. Furthermore, to support outdoor learning, healthy lifestyle, language skills and student‘s and staff‘s global awareness. Learning new teaching methods will strengthen the developmental project “Orð af orði”, which the school is an active participant of. There‘s a considerable amount of experience of outdoor learning within the school, which will thus increase. Partnership with other Nordic schools is one of the corner stones of Flúðaskóli‘s culture. This has brought more language skills and the importance of global cooperation towards our students. We are aiming for incorporating new teaching methods in accordance with society’s development, whilst preparing students for their participation in a global society. Teachers will gain knowledge and skills to graduate students with the resources to manage in modern society within a global context. It’s vital for students to be aware of the importance of sustainability and to apply this mind set in their daily lives. The project consist of three courses for ten teachers. Seminar on outdoor learning in Sweden: Five teacher, with diverse experience on the topic, will go to this seminar. Most of the school staff have considerable amount of experience in this field of education. They will gain increased skills and knowledge in working with sustainability and outdoor learning which will encourage healthy lifestyle and environmental awareness. English course on Malta: A teacher with limited experience in teaching languages, thus should gain more experience and skills. English language course in Scotland: Four teacher, with substantial experience, are yearning for knowledge and increasing their ability. Participants will be better prepared for educating their students for their global future. Long-term results of this project will be better prepared staff with vast knowledge, which would result in better educated students. Many opportunities lie in the field of developing language teaching methods and outdoor learning. It’s important to be at the steering wheel, and share the knowledge with other colleagues. In that way we are giving back to the learning community.
