HAPPY TOURIST – Holistic Application to effectively train touristic services staff is accessibility issues

Within the tourism sector awareness has grown for people with special needs towards the facilities and services offered, more specific concerning obtaining suitable accommodation, the accessibility of hotels and other relevant establishments. Hotel personnel also should be made aware of the adaptations and services needed by people with special needs (children, older people, people with disabilities, etc). The “happy tourist” project wants to contribute to a significant improvement of the qualifications of all workforce target groups involved in the tourism sector by improving their knowledge and skills in providing services to people with special needs. More in detail the project aims to improve the quality of tourist services offered to people with special needs by means of an innovative vocational training of all relevant hotel staff, combining ICT based learning with on-the-job-training and continuing life-long trainings schemes. Also the goal is to adapt all relevant training didactics and material to the need of people with special needs in order to enhance their employability in the tourist sector. Finally the project wants to develop e-learning tools to monitor and enhance tha quality of vocational training in accessibility issues at the tourist sector. Main target groups of the project are of course all categories of people with special needs. The training schemes and tools will also address the following target groups of hotel personnel: hotel managers, receptionists, grooms, booking personnel, technical support personnel and accessibility consultants. Dissemination is organised through the production of leaflets, posters, newsletters, workshops, national events and a European conference. Also a website will be created with demos of the developed tools and courses.
