Happy, healthy and creative pupils across borders
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The pupils from our schools learn in an environment that changes fast and have developed a growing interest on the ICT tools that is highly stimulated by mass media, national and international strategies. On the other hand, even if the schools have the appropriate equipment, not many teachers from our schools use ICT tools in their teaching as they do not have the appropriate training and skills and they are not confident enough in using modern teaching methods. As a result of that, many times pupils do prefer to stay at home playing on the computer as school and learning seem less attractive, increasing the number of the school leavers. Many pupils attend school because they feel that it is their duty to do so and not because they enjoy learning and the activities developed in the school environment. The classical teaching methods whereby pupils sit most of the time and listen to the teacher's speech became less and less attractive for our pupils. On the other hand, the majority of the pupils' time during the day is being spent sitting in front of a teacher or in front of a computer at home. Pupils have less and less opportunities to be involved in physical or outdoor activities throughout a working day, at school and at home. The lack of supervision from the pupils' parents increase the pupils' vulnerability as they spend more and more time in front of the computer to the detriment of physical and outdoor activities. The project's objectives: 1. To promote a healthy balance between the use of ICT tools, the physical activities and the citizenship activities throughout the day. 2. To promote the active learning, encouraging the infusion of ICT tools and the interactive methods of teaching. 3. To raise the parents awareness regarding the ICT strengths and weaknesses and their increasing role in supervising and supporting the pupils to achieve the best outcomes in education and health. The project will use original methods and activities that can help the pupils to achieve better outcomes in health and education. The pupils need active learning, good examples and good practice in order to change their attitude and behavior and that is why the main focus of our project will be on learning by doing and mobility at the local and international level. Therefore, the schools involved will change their teaching style via trainings and the infusion of models of good practice, in order to make the process more dynamic and more attractive for the pupils. The pupils will be involved in workshops, events, contests and trips related to the following themes: "Helpful ICT tools", "School gardening", "A responsible citizen", "Music, art and dance" and "Physical activities and healthy diet". The pupils will be encouraged to participate to sport contests, to trips and local and international events that will be organized by the partners involved. The methods that we chose will help the pupils to find education within our schools more attractive, to enjoy learning, to enjoy the physical activities and the healthy diets and to be happy, healthy and creative citizens. The project's impact will be visible at the local, national and European level. The teachers will improve their teaching skills and will be able to make the act of teaching more attractive for the pupils via ICT tools and other modern methods of teaching which promote the active learning. The pupils will develop their ICT skills and will become more able to achieve a right balance between the use of ICT tools, the physical activities and the citizenship activities throughout the day. They will have more healthy options for their free time and they will spend more time outdoors, becoming active and healthy citizens who follow their own communities' values as well as the European values. Furthermore, the project will raise the parents awareness and will stimulate them to support their pupils to achieve better outcomes in health and education. The relevant stakeholders (parents, non governmental organizations, members of the local community) will have the opportunity to work together with the school partners in order to achieve better outcomes in education and health for the pupils. The participating organizations will increase their capacity to work at an European level and their capacity to cooperate with European partners that will strengthen their capacity to develop and implement future European projects in the field of education.
