Handweit - Handwerkerweiterbildung in Italien 2014
Start date: Sep 21, 2014, End date: May 28, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The aim of the 14 week program "Hand Wide 2014" was to increase the mobility willingness of young adults abroad through language training, the application of acquired professional knowledge in an internship and experiencing a different culture and working environment. Since 2008 VIMOB Pforzheim cooperates with the Stadtjugendring Betriebs GmbH Pforzheim (municipal youth office PLC (short form SJR) and was supported by an extensive network of local, regional and national organizations. The original target country was Italy. Since 1998 we already work closely together with EUROCULTURA in Vicenza. As we did not receive any applications for Italy, respectively the applicants recalled their application, we have changed after consulting the NA BiBB the target countries and partners to England and Ireland. Since 2004 we are working together with the language school LANGUAGE in TOTNES (Devon), England and since 2012 in Ireland with the language school LANGUAGE in Dublin (Dun Laoghaire / Dublin County). Until the end of the contract we could give 6 students in Totnes, England and 2 in Dublin, Ireland a scholarship each for a period of 14 weeks. One participant had to quit for personal reasons the program after 8.5 weeks in Totnes. The beneficiaries were between 20 and 27 years old. They were either merchants, mechatronics , joiners or carpenters. They have completed the internship mostly right after their apprenticeship, or within one year of their apprenticeship end. In addition to personal strengthening, was the linguistic and cultural mobility decisively increased. The participants were able to consolidate their job-related knowledge and gain additional knowledge and techniques. From all participants the experience abroad with regard to the entire time was assessed as positive. In any case, the program has been viewed by the participants as failed. The experience abroad has been certified in various ways (EUROPASS, language course certificate, program confirmation, internship certificate). During the contract process the partnership has been continuously improved. VIMOB has increased its consulting expertise in the selection of the participants and in the program planning. Occurring problems could be solved quickly together with the foreign partner. Through visits of VIMOB employees in Italy conversations could take place directly with the participants, the foreign partners and also personal conversations with the companies concerning the content and the implementation of the program, as well as future perspectives. The good news was that several participants had been the opportunity to stay in the foreign internship company. Until spring 2016 VIMOB was still asked to extend the deployment, but this was no longer perceived. Due to the good labor market situation in Germany 11 participants took back their application just before leaving, because they received an employment or they did not have enough financial capital resources. The contact and the cooperation with other German partners proceeded with all very good and cooperative. The partners helped with the distribution of the program and advised the applicants with their proceedings.
