Handshaking of cultures, religions and generations on the border of Hungary and Serbia (MUSICBRIDGE)

The joint project of Százszorszép Children's House and Vojvodina Choral Association Novi Sad aims at organisation of joint events in the fields of music culture and music art.The overall objective of the MUSICBRIDGE project is to increase the musical cultivation of Hungarian and Serbian citizens, to coming to get to know each other's musical culture and by this to strengthen the common cultural identity of the border region. The project contributes to the development of musical culture, enhance the foreshowing and protection of each other's musical treasures and traditions. Moreover, the project facilitates the professional and methodological development of participants of the Serbian and Hungarian music life. During the 17 months period of the project different musical events will be organised on both sides of the border, in which Serbian and Hungarian choir members, conductors, song, music and choir leader educators and students participate. The number of participants in this project reaches 600 people. The target group of the project is the participants in one hand and the audience of the musical events organised by the partners on the other hand. The choir meetings, chorister meeting, the conference on music traditions and the other events organised during the project contributes to broaden people's musical view, protect and sustain the common cultural values and foster the identity of local communities on both sides of the border. Through the joint activities professional knowledge and experience can be changed between the two countries, since the jointly performed pieces have prominent significance in the transfer of music-technical knowledge and performance-art practices. Achievements: The origins of choral music are found in traditional music, as singing in big groups is extremely wide spread in traditional cultures. Studies suggest that singing together greatly enhances trust between members of any group. So, group singing could unite people in a group who share common interests. The overall aim of the MUSICBRIDGE project was to increase Hungarian and Serbian citizens musical cultivation, to help them get to know each others musical cultures and in doing so to intensify the cultural interaction in the border region. The partners organised an international chorister seminar in Szeged and an international choir meeting in Novi Sad, at which choirs and musicians from all over the world gathered and exchanged their experiences. The visitors, musicians and enthusiasts especially enjoyed joint concerts in both cities, while the series of concerts in Szeged was equally well-attended. Through these joint activities, professional knowledge, expertise and pedagogical methods were exchanged between the musicians from the two countries. The project contributed to the development of musical culture, enhanced the protection of musical treasures and traditions in the border region. Moreover, the programme facilitated the professional and methodological development of those who participate in the Serbian and Hungarian music spheres.
