hands on europe
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "hands on europe!" gives three volunteers the possibility to deal actively and with pedagogical support with the subjects "migration society" and "refugees in europe". Fields of action of this Project is the Centre for Youth-Education - Lower Franconia (Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken) and Don Bosco Vocational School in Würzburg. One volunteer (from Poland) will support the work in Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken, one volunteer (from Georgia) works in different fields of refugee-work in Don Bosco and one volunteer (from Italy) supports both organisation (Don Bosco + Jubi) in combination. The volunteer from Poland will support the pedagogical and logistic work of the Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken from September 2016 till August 2017 for 12 month. Sending Organisation will be Piaskowy Smok. The volunteer supports the preparation, realization and public relations of all educational offers of the Jubi, including the international work and all programs concerned with the subject "escape & refugees". The volunteer supports moreover our EVS-Coordinator for organizing regular meetings of all EVS-Volunteers in the region of Lower-Frankonia.The volunteer from Georgia will support Don Bosco Vocational School from September 2016 till September 2017 for 12 month. She will be supported by her sending Organisation Youth Association DRONI. The volunteer supports the social and pedagogical work of Don Bosco and will be involved into educational offers, the realisation of leisure facilities and assisted living for young refugees. The volunteer will help to give orientation, to assist occupational trainings and language courses and to assist the everyday life of young refugees. The volunteer from Italy will support the Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken and Don Bosco Vocational School from May 2016 till MAy 2017 for 12 month. His sending Organisation will be Comune Padova. The volunteer will work in Don Bosco for three days a week, to get to know and to support the practical work with young refugees. He will be especially involved into the realisation of leisure facilities for unaccompanied minor refugees. The second field of action of this volunteer-service, will be the Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken for two days a week. Here, he will support the pedagogical work with young refugees and the educational offers for youth and multipliers concerning the subject "escape/refuge & asylum". Moreover, the volunteer will be put in charge of public relations in the field of the educational program concerning "escape/refuge & asylum". All three volunteers of the "hands on europe!" - project will be supervised by regular exchanges of experiences and supported by trainings and education programs by the Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken. All volunteers get the chance once a week, to get assistance, education and trainings with regard to the contents of pedagogical work with young refugees. As result of the project, we envisage the subject "refuge & asylum", with the involvement of European volunteers, to be seen more as an common European challenge. On local, national and international level, we want to set a precedent with our pilot project. We would like to show, in which way it is possible, to involve volunteers into the work with young refugees. The pedagogical support and the combination of practical and theoretical learning in our project is unique. With this, we want to inspire other EVS-Organizations for their praxis. We want to show, that the European Volunteer Service is able, to pick up relevant topics of the society actively and to give answers to the challenges of the "refugee-crisis" we are facing today. In general, we expect the organisations through the presence and their engagement of the young volunteers from Europe will get more international (and European) dimension. Volunteers will bring refreshing new ideas, different experiences, approaches and perspectives. The three volunteers themselves should learn to work as a team, to improve new methods of working with young people, to be more self-confident and independent, to improve their foreign language skills etc. For us is also important to strengthen the networking between the institutions and volunteers in Unterfranken.
