Hand in hand - EVS for Disabled People
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In Our project carried out in “Centre For The People With Special Needs” volunteers were working with disabled people. In our opinion those people should be treated in the same way as normal people in society. The project brought benefits for both sides through mutual help because we think that by building others we built ourselves. Anyone could become a project member, regardless of nationality, sexual orientation, religion or political convictions. We did not have any specific expectations from candidates although motivation, strong will and no resistance to work with disabled people were crucial. Our volunteers were: Andrea from Slovakia, Rebeca from Spain and Felipe from France. By the project they were promoting the idea of social equality, the unification of Europe and broadly defined discrimination. Those young people by their social active approach and actions were giving a great example of tolerance and solidarity. A sense of acceptance and social Multicultural development were carried out through daily classes mainly by doing specific actions and working with people in need. Direct contact with disabled people was a kind of school of life and a demonstration method for true face of difference. Together with our crew volunteers were taking part in daily life of our institution. This allowed them to mature and understand the problems of disability from different point of view. The responsibilities of the volunteers were inducted step by step, but we left them the opportunity of self-realization and implementation of their own ideas and solutions. They were performing tasks in the studios of: drawing, music, computer, theatre and relaxation, culinary with household, educational - care and physical improvement studio. Volunteers had a chance to enhance quality of the project through participation in the preparations for the artistic performances of our children and also by joining trips and picnics. Volunteers have participated in lectures concerning the Program in schools. They could become familiar with a foreign culture through participation in events, culinary evenings and trips. During the project youth acquired the necessary competences and the result was individual development, social inclusion, active citizenship and widen of horizons. Just the presence of the volunteers and their actions were promoting the activity of young people in society. Volunteers were fresh breeze for our Centre and its activities diversified prosaic life of disabled children.
