Hacer de la inclusión una no exclusión
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

To be able to answer to the needs of the student body is much more than carrying out a report or reviewing statistics. It is ensuring that they learn to cope independently in the world in which they live. At IES Chaves Nogales, we make a daily effort to give the best of ourselves, as both people and as teachers, to our students, and this is how we approach our work. The strategies that form the backbone of and guide our work as teachers are moral education, attention to diversity, Bilingualism and Information and Communication Technology, among others. As a result of an in depth staff self-assessment, the activities which could benefit from improvement, and those which therefore form our project, are the following: teacher training in the elaboration of CLIC didactic units which consider the treatment of diversity in the classroom; the integration of students with learning difficulties using the newest technology available; training in the use of applications, resources and tools to enhance the use of both ICT and English in the classroom and, finally, the implementation of a Bilingual Programme that is accessible to a highly varied range of levels in the classroom. We want to communicate with these students through written, oral and visual means - making use of another language and taking advantage of the revitalising nature of new technology. Our objectives are centred on attention to diversity because we are aware that if learning is a complex task for students in Spanish, an even more difficult task is to learn in English, using new and unfamiliar technology. The participants in our project will be those who teach as part of the Bilingual Progamme and/or the Programme coordinator, as well as the management team and/or school counsellor; two participants from the group of staff and one from the management team and/or counsellor would be advised. The activities in our project would be divided into three groups: those to be done before, during and after training. They are centred on the importance of knowing how the student learns in order to know best how to teach them, without forgetting the focus on inclusion which permeates our project. The project’s suggested activities, based on our aims as a school, have received wide and enthusiastic support and their basic elements are already visible in our Bilingual Programme as efficient instruments for bilateral communication. We will spread our experience to other teaching centres through our blog where we will publish an entry, in which we will include a critical evaluation of the activities. The experience will further be shared with our affiliated primary schools, thanks to the transition programme, making the benefits of such training a point for reflection for other centres and parents alike. Finally, an evaluation of our experience will also be published in educational reviews, for example Cuadernos de Pedagogia, to which some of our teachers already contribute, in order to make our achievements known and to explain the challenges overcome, as well as any interesting observations noted. Our commitment from IES Chaves Nogales is a fundamental principle as much on a regional level as a national one and, of course, international, with high levels of teacher participation in educational programmes and activities; this willingness is born from an open-minded attitude towards learning, which underpins our desire to and participate in the Erasmus+ programme.
