Green Urban Cycle

The project "Green Urban Cycles" addressed the growing problem of urbanization which, apart from creating a strain on theplanet's resources, complicates our ability to live healthy and sustainable lives, alienates us from each other and causes socialpressure between groups with different income and racial backgrounds. It consisted of one main “youth workers mobility activity”- training course, that happened in the city of Liepaja from 10-18 May 2015.Youth organizations working in urban areas are facing more difficulties engaging young people in its activities and bringingmeaningful and necessary activities to young people (with young people) whilst young people are facing difficulties withbelonging, connection, meaning, direction and healthy behaviors.The course brought together 24 youth workers and community activists from eight organizations coming from sevencountries:Latvia, Portugal, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Spain and Romania - Radi Vidi Pats, Rota Jovem, Neront, Mladi zaMarof, Be International, Asociación Biodiversa, Asociatia URBANIAC and Asociatia Puzzle OptimEast Tg. Neamt.The participants were pro-active, solutionary, curious youth workers, NGO workers, community organizers - willing to get evenmore active in their local community and organize common activities and actions, helping the transformation of unhealthy andenvironmentally-unfriendly behaviors happen.The training course raised awareness of the impacts of urbanization especially concerning youth, environment and health andthe role of the youth organizations in guiding more sustainability in cities through youth activities.It provided tools for partner organizations to effectively encourage youth participation, promote creative activism, and leadcommunity work & city mapping in order to create lasting change and affect behaviors at their local communities.Participants of the training course gained hands on experience of tools for social change, networked and explored opportunitiesEN Page 4 of 20Report FormCall: 2014KA1 - Learning Mobility of IndividualsParticipants of the training course gained hands on experience of tools for social change, networked and explored opportunitiesfor local and international projects that work towards sustainable change in cooperation with each other.The course methodology was based on non-formal learning, experiential education, community service, individual and groupwork, inputs and insights from four experts in the field of creative activism, theater & sustainable food cycles were invited.As one of the results of the project a web platform was created on the topic of the training course, with participants inputs,course info & learning tools. https://greenurbancycles.wordpress.com/2015/06/03/switched-further-from-green-towards-supergreen/
