Green Routes without Obstacles (Green Routes)
Start date: Dec 31, 2013, End date: Jun 29, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

PROBLEM: The Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarusian border regions are rich in natural parks, lakes and forrests. The nature parks are adapted for tourist needs, however the disabled people tend to be forgotten. Therefore the partners are joining forces to make the riches of the nature accessible for people with the dissability of movement.OBJECTIVES: to contribute to equal opportunities in nature tourism in Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus bordering regions by adapting the infrastructure and educating tourism service providers. Achievements: Several places of nature tourism were made accessible to the disabled people in Latvia (Rāzna National Park, Ezernieki), Lithuania (Grazute Regional Park) and Belarus (Zaboriye) border regions. Tourism booklet “Green Routes” was developed and distributed to the disabled organisations, mentioning all nature tourism attractions adapted for people with disabilities.Tourism service providers of 3 countries were trained to treat people with disabilities properly. Technical recommendations on adapting the nature tourism infrastructure for disabled people and practical advice for personnel working with disabled children outdoors were developed and made publicly available on partners websites.300 kilometres-long cross-border marathon of 17 people in motorized wheelchairs was organised, testing the infrastructure objects adapted to the needs of the disabled and promoting the active way of life of the disabled.
