The Training Course “GREEN: Practice what you preach!” intends to train mainly youth and social workers to use eco-friendly tools and approaches at work and provide them with the competences to act as multipliers in their own organizations and projects. This training course is one of the projects that resulted as a follow-up activity of GO GREEN II organized by SALTO - Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource Centre and APD (Academy for Peace and Development) in Georgia (November 2013). Having in mind the urgency of a sustainable development in our societies, the idea behind this project is to empower youth and social workers and their organizations in terms of social and environmental responsibility, saving and optimizing resources and also strategies of self-financing by reducing costs with materials and equipments and at the same time revealing a higher green commitment transforming words into actions. This project pretends to involve participants from 9 countries (Europe, Mediterranean and Caucasus partners) and will take place in Amarante (Portugal) during 7 days, from 13th till 19th November 2014, gathering in a balanced way (gender and countries) 25 participants (2 or 3 per country), 2 experts and 2 staff. Main objectives: - To raise awareness of the participants on sustainable development in general and practical tools to put it in practice at their NGO, in particular; - To provide the participants with knowledge, skills and competences regarding the eco-friendly use of paper, craft, textiles, canvas and other materials; - To stimulate the spirit of entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency of the participants involving them in activities that can develop their abilities and creativity under reuse and reduce background policies; - To encourage the creativity, leadership skills, innovative attitude and environmental responsibility of the participants to act as multipliers of the knowledge acquire in during the training course. Main activities and methods: This training course will enhance several activities such as group building; discover of the city (Amarante); NGO market; presentation of Erasmus+; learning different techniques connected with the reuse of eco-friendly material ; street actions; visibility of the project (internet and multimedia); intercultural night; show room; marketing workshop, follow-up ideas. The experts and facilitators will encourage as much as possible the "learning by doing" and use several methods of non-formal education to achieve the objectives such as brainstorming, group dynamics, simulations, energizers, ice-breakers, role-plays, visits, work in small groups, presentations, etc. Some topics we agreed to work: Sustainable budget; Recycle, Re-use and Reduce (pin-hole, local products, second hand market, etc.); Organic and biodynamic farming and cooking; Fair Trade and Ethical Finance; Sustainable Development and Energy efficiency. This Training Course will have a positive impact in th way participants will approach the work inside their organizations especially in terms of daily decision making under the principles of Sustainable Development. Experiencing (through simulations and visits) and peer education (workshops, laboratories) will create learning outputs at long term and inspire/influence in a positive way strategic management, under ethical and sustainable values (and also more independent, creative and self-sufficient).
