Green Citizenship
Start date: Dec 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project is called Green citizenship and will look at active citizenship, defining what it means and how important it is to be an active citizen in the EU. We will look at environmental concerns and address important issues which have been identified in each of the partner countries. We will work together to find workable solutions for common problems so that we can protect our EU environment by being active citizens who care for our planet. The idea of the project was developed during a Salto training course in Cyprus where the participants from various countries discussed the issues of environmental education and addressed some concerns relating to environmental education and the knowledge and respect young people have for the environment. It was seen as important to add the element of active citizenship to the project to highlight the fact that we active citizens it is our obligation to protect our environment and that with these obligation we also have rights to protect us and the environment. We identified problems and ideas from each partner country to address in this project. Some of the issues identified were the lack of environmental knowledge, the misuse of green areas in cities, the destruction of forests and nature areas, the lack of knowledge regarding EU citizenship and the inactive attitude of young people toward the environment. The project will look at all these issues and more from the perspective of youth and see who we can get youth in all of our communities more active in the fields of environmental education and knowledge and also as active EU citizens by understanding the importance of these two subjects and the roles we all play in them.
