Grassroots Youth Democracy

The project is a global action aimed at fostering transnational capacity building for unemployed disadvantaged youth. It will gather youth from two European countries toughly affected by the economical crises (Greece and Italy) and from other four different countries (Mauritius, India, Uruguay, Ecuador) belonging to different continents. They will be involved in a coherent scheme of learning mobilities through non formal education opportunities (seminar, training, job shadowing). The experience will help them to acquire competence, skills, and knowledge that will help them to re-enter in the labour market. The red thread of the project is youth activation and participation to democratic life, (the topic of a campaign to be organized during the activities) that is an essential step to overcome social exclusion. Among project outputs, a Open Educational Resource will be created: an online platform where participants will upload project achievements, learned lessons, methods used and outcomes. The OER platform will favor project dissemination and sustainability as well as a process of continuous self learning of a growing number of youngstersThe project foster cooperation among different organizations with variegated backgrounds and expertise, joining NGOs with experience in youth social inclusion and capacity building, with other experienced in social communication, campaigning, media. It will thus favour mutual learning and blending of knowledge and expertise. Project outcomes will be used to advocate with local authorities, also thanks to the role of a Municipality that is formal partner and that will favour interaction with institutions.ActivitiesSeminar: 16 youngsters will meet in Montevideo, Uruguay. They will learn how to coordinate an international campaign. They will decide the specific the subject of the common campaign of the project, aimed at enhancing youth democratic participation. They will get prepared for the job shadowing deciding how to carry on the field studies foreseen within it. The OER Platform will be presented during the seminar.Training: 16 participants will meet in Italy for a training aimed at enhancing their ICT potential, in particular in video making, video journalism and web campaigning. The skills will be later used during the job shadowing.Job Shadowing: In the first phase European partners will host 4 youth workers each, one from each Partner country. Symmetrically in the second phase each Southern partner will host two youngster from European countries. They will carry on the campaign and conduct field studies. With all the multimedia output produced they will enrich the OER Platform. All participants to mobilities, once returned, will be involved in activities of the sending NGOsOne final international conference will be held in Italy to disseminate project outputs and increase its outreach.All participants to mobilities will be unemployed youth, having social economical and geographical disadvantages
