Göçmen Çocukları Eğitimle Kazanmak
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our Erasmus+ project is a consortium that is coordinated by Yildirim District Director of National Education, and partnered by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar Primary School, Akcaglayan Ihsan Dikmen Primary School, Naz Ozdilek Primary School, Mumin Gencoglu Primary School and Davutkadir Primary School. There will be 24 teachers participating in our project. Each school is going to send 4 teachers, and the mobility is going to be completed in two flows to Germany and Hungary. In accordance with our projects’ context, our teachers are going to attend course activities for 10 days with a specific focus on the integration of immigrant students. The political unstability of the Middle East in recent years, especially in neighbor countries of Turkey, the social unrest, long lasting desultory politic atmosphere and gradually the conflicts within the territory resulted mass migration. Turkey, with its cultural similarity, shared beliefs and norms to some extent, and its key geographical location had eminently became one of the most popular countries for those refugees to migrate, with a few other countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. As a result, migration and refugee crisis, which is always a controversial issue for developed countries, had became a debated issue in Turkey as well, which started to serve not only as a stop but also as a hallway for international migration. Syrian refugees should be considered as a vital issue not only for our country but also for other European countries. Being forced to leave the place that you were born and raised is a serious problem that needs to be overcomed for every people, but particularly for the children in the age for primary school. These children that had to leave their countries because of the war and social unrest, now having a really hard time adapting to their new environment. Most Syrian refugee children does not even have the chance to access education immediately. The ones that are lucky enough to be provided with education on the other hand, are finding it really hard to adapt and adjust to their new schools. This creates the problem of “The Lost Generation in Education”. Since a serious amoun of Syrian refugees are accommodating in our district now, we are forced to take action to prevent such a problem of the lost generation. With this exact purpose, our project is created to provide our teachers with the specialized training in the integration of immigrant childrent in education. Unfortunately our teachers have not take any courses related to inter-cultural relations during their education in undergraduate level. Moreover, they lack of expertise in guidance skills in the crisis times. Therefore, we are currently unable to integrate refugee childrens into our education system. That is to say, we are unable to give them their fundamental right back, the right to education. The purposes of this project are as follows:- Increasing our teachers’ guidance and counseling skills in order to make them more capable of deal with situations related to refugee childrens’ problems - Increasing our teachers’ skills on creating activities and applications speficically designed to make refugee chilrens’ adaptation easier and faster.- Widening our teachers’ perspective and vision with the help of their observation on integration process in education in the examples of Germany and Hungary.- With the help of mobility activities, creating a sort of common conscience on the issue of migration and refugee crisis.
