In the youth exchange, which took place in Neuenhagen (Germany), 34 young people with social disadvantages and disabilities from Poland, Italy, Ireland and Germany got to know each other. Within 9 days the youths reduced their prejudices and fear of the unknown through games and sport. Through the many and varied sport activities, the group feeling in the multicultural group was strengthened. Additionally the youths learnt the benefits of sport in general and particularly team sport. The highlight of the youth exchange was an international football tournament. The young people learnt that despite language barriers and different cultures verbal and non-verbal communication and dialogue is possible. Through sport they learnt to adhere to rules and to master challenges which increases their self-confidence. Furthermore, the youths learnt intercultural competences and because of that will be more open to longer mobility activities such as internships abroad. The youth exchange strengthens the partnership between the five participating organisation in the long term and enable the exchange of methods for working with youths with social disadvantages and disabilities.
