Globaliseringskonferansen 2016
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Nov 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The GlobalisationCconference is a four-day conference held in Oslo every two years. The Globalisation Conference has been held 10 times previously, and arose in the aftermath that the World Social Forum and the struggle for a more just and democratic world at the start of the 2000s. The purpose of the conference is to gather young people and others involved for the environment, peace, justice, solidarity and social rights, in or outside organisations, and with a great diversity of approaches. The Norwegian Social Forum, which hosts the conference, consists of 64 organisations from research institutions, aid organisations, solidarity, environment, peace and women's movemenst, and trade unions, parties and youth organisations. The title of the conference, which was determined by an extraordinary annual meeting in the autumn of 2015, is "Without Borders". Including three sub-themes: Conflict, environment, and economy. The title and themes, together with a special focus on migration and rights, are pervasive for the entire program at the conference, and it will be held plenary meetings related to all the sub-themes.The conference will consist of around 70 different events, including introductions, lectures, workshops, seminars, tribunal, debates and cultural events. Politicians, activists, professionals and academics will be strongly represented on the program. Through a very diverse program, we will contribute to cooperation and discussion between different political environments, and promote exchange of experience, learning and increased engagement. The program will be designed and implemented by our 64 member organizations jointly, where the content was made through an enrollment process coordinated by the Board.Youth is one of the conference's main target groups, although we also want to reach out to other groups. We will have a youth programme, with events and activities that will make the conference particularly interesting for young people: It will include concerts and various workshops aimed at young people, and we will organise transport from several places in the country which will make it easy to get the conference, regardless of personal finacial circumstances. We will also rent a school where youth can be accommodated during the conference. Everything in the program should be suitable for young people, and we will do our best to make the meetings and seminars engaging and accessible. The Norwegian Social Forum is a network organisation, and is led by a board elected at the annual meeting. The Board is responsible for coordinating the work leading up to the conference, and has responsibility for arranging plenary meetings on the sub-themes of the conference. The organisations organise the smaller meetings on various topics relevant to the conference title and sub-themes. Most of the events are organised in cooperation with several organisations. The Globalisation Conference 2016 is the eleventh conference, and has grown to become an important institution for the movements that the Norwegian Social Forum represents - especially for youth. Based on participant registries from previous conferences, we consider it realistic to mobilize some 2,000 people to the conference. In 2014, 464 of the participants were youth between 13 and 30 years. With a larger Board, larger youth group and a youth and mobilisation coordinator employed for a longer time, our ambition is to increase the number of participants.
