'Glam: The Art of Excess'
Start date: May 1, 2012,

Tate Liverpool in collaboration with the Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Germany and the Lentos Kunstmuseum, Linz, Austria, wishes to research and develop a major exhibition, Glam! The Art of Excess, which revisits the ‘Glam’ era that emerged in the early-1970s, and also develop new published works on the topic in the form of an exhibition catalogue, on-line research forum, and host an associated academic conference. In partnership with Schirn Kunsthalle and Lentos Kunstmuseum, Tate Liverpool plans to engage with key scholars, writers and art historians working across Europe. In recent years a number of academics and research centres across Europe have critically engaged with art, performance and visual culture through the optic of Glam to generate new scholarship and critical thinking. We will build on this to reveal and examine the origins of the Glam sensibility in Britain, whilst tracing its concerns and continuing influence through Europe and beyond. Through the project we aim:- To mobilise at least 22 curators, scholars, artists and experts within Europe in order to develop new artistic ideas and products of excellent international quality- To partner with three organisations, in three different member states at a European level- To create one new exhibition based in new European research and thinking that will tour to three venues across Europe attracting 100,000 visitors- To enable the transnational circulation of 160 artistic and cultural works - To publish new research in the form of one exhibition catalogue available in two languages and at least five different countries- To host 1 international conference with at least 10 contributors and 100 attendees from at least three different countries within Europe - To attract at least 30,000 people through our Gallery education programmes held at each venue during the period that the ‘Glam’ exhibition is on display.- Link to 2012 Year of Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity
