Give music a chance
Start date: Aug 1, 2012,

The project name is "Give music a chance" and will be held in Lund and Eslöv, Sweden. From the 14th to the 28th of October 2012, 40 young people from Sweden, Latvia, Italy, Ukraine and Belarus will participate in a multilateral youth exchange hosted by ABF in Lund, Sweden. Our project will focus on a cultural exchange between young disadvantaged, mainly unemployed youth of mixed gender with different musical backgrounds. As a follow up program we like to extend this exchange on a European wide scale by organising an annual multi-cultural week for amateur young musicians held in Sweden. The objectives of the project are to develop a mutual understanding, enhance creativity and entrepreneurship, combat racism and xenophobia by dividing the participants in eight groups each consisting of five nationalities and work together and as a result, each group produces a song where the lyrics will reflect a different theme. The proposed themes are democracy, poverty, racism, hunger, freedom, environment, society and the future. We believe it is a highly innovative way to reach a large audience as the songs will go viral on mainstream social media. We believe that music is the most universal way to convey a message in the form of lyrics to young people all over the world , especially in these days of social media where music can go viral in a short space of time and can have a lasting positive influence on the mindset of young people. This in turn may lead to the establishment of long-lasting, high quality cultural projects and partnerships. Apart from producing the songs there will be activities in dance, theatre, yoga and sports, excursions as well as thematic and cultural evenings presented by the various groups. The aim is to learn through the universal medium of music and improve the understanding that young people no matter where they come from nor their socio-cultural background, have similar hopes and wishes and dreams to build a better future for themselves and this world.
