Girls Rock Camp Europe Seminar & Exchange
Start date: May 1, 2013,

Girls Rock Camp Europe Seminar & Exchange will be hosted by Popkollo in the south of Sweden (Skåne) at a residential college adult education. With the support of volunteers staff and representatives (staff, experts) from the different participating European countries co-coaching and mentoring. All international travelling will be on the day before the seminar, food and lodging will be provided by Popkollo associates. The seminar and exchange will offer a 5 day training program for 46 young women working in the youth field with emphasis on gender equality, leadership and organizational needs and challenges. Around 46 organizers and leaders from the participating rock camps will attend the seminar program which will be organized in two different themed tracks of workshops & training sessions: Girls Rock Leadership and Girls Rock Organizer. A draft of the seminar program and its activities is attached in the paper copy of this application. While the Leadership-Track will have an emphasis on entrepreneurial spirit and youth culture and leisure, the Organizer-Track will focus on gender and diversity in youth work. Proposed leader training discussion questions include “What training does your organization do for community leadership skills and how does it involve anti-discrimination measurements?” Workshops within the Organizer-Track include topic questions like “What kind of anti-racism and multicultural workshops do you offer and what are your experiences with it?” and “How can you use the tools of music criticism to deconstruct the imagery of femininity and the female body displayed in mainstream music magazines in order to reveal its stereotyped sexist ascriptions?”Girls Rock Camp Europe Seminar & Exchange wants to provide an European-wide training and networking opportunity. The Seminar is addressed to leaders and organizers involved in the youth working field of Girls Rock Camps in Europe to meet, share resources and develop new skills and competences. Girls Rock Camp Europe Seminar & Exchange is a Seminar Program of two programming tracks open for all levels and stages of Girls Rock Camp development. One of the tracks is specifically for leaders within our activities and focuses on sharing experiences and develop competence concerning leadership qualities. We will also target diversity in the youth field and youth with less opportunities. The second track is for organisers of our activities and we will here share best practices, develop common strategies for improvement and cooperation. Participants, experts and staff will be from: Sweden, Austria, Germany, Iceland, France, Denmark, Norway, Finland. On the last day of the seminar there will also be an open discussion, a workshop and concerts by young female musicians open to the public. We will focus on interactive methods where everyone will be able to contribute, no matter previous experience or knowledge. Experts and Staff will lead workshops and will of course contribute with their expertise and knowledge in the field. The general framework is created by a committee a head but will also leave possibilities for participants to add questions and needs as they appear to them and to the group. The group is, together, in charge of and responsible for fulfilling the expectations that they decide on. It is important to us that everyone can participate on their own level and that the group is a safe space for everyone involved. To make sure that the seminar and exchange is a place where everyone feels safe and where everyone can contribute the first hours are crucial. So we will put a lot of energy to the first welcoming and meeting. We will do activities in order for us to get to know each other, both in big and small groups. We will talk about our different experiences of the week and together try to find a way for all of them to get fulfilled. We will also create common guidelines on how to show respect and interest and how to interact within the group. This is important since we are all different, from different cultures and backgrounds and everyone needs to be respected and feel that they are within a safe environment. We will also create reflection groups that will meet up every day to share feelings and experiences in order to support each other. Non-formal learning is a key principle within our project and we will, in addition to workshops and training sessions, offer topic discussions, open discussion in large and small groups, work groups, extensive opportunities for Q & A, brainstorming, and of course fun activities for all participants. With Girls Rock Camp Europe Seminar & Exchange we want to promote the participation of young people and cooperation in the youth field through the means of music education, creativity and cultural engagement for girls and women. Creating possibilities for sustainable networking and exchanges for future projects, offering training and skill sharing sessions in a workshop atmosphere as well as encouraging and building communities among like-minded youth initiatives are the goals we’re aiming to achieve.
