GIOVANI PER L'INTERCULTURALITA'
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Nov 16, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project focused on art and culture and social inclusion issues. Ufficio Progetto Giovani, situated in the down town of Padova (Italy), works in the field of youth policies and provides services for young people being in deep contact with the Social Services and two territorial animation Youth Points. This allowed the 2 volunteers, from Spain and France, hosted for 10 months in the project, to be involved in the selected themes collaborating with operators in the areas of interest (Spazio Europa, Info-youth, Animation and Social Services). The project offered the possibility to learn how the Municipality works in the field of the youth policies, in particular noting the measures taken to facilitate the employment of young and disadvantaged people, the efforts made to provide formative and creative opportunities to youth, as well as recreational and educational activities to elderlies and children. Volunteers experienced in different social organizations (including institutions) active in Padua and in Veneto offering support, integration and social inclusion of inmigrants, disabled people, youth and families in difficulty, as well as with the various associations and non-profit organisations in the area. Aline and Angel werw involved in after-school projects (Social Services) and in the Animation Area, proposing computer courses, social media and garphic novel courses (basing on their personal interests and skills), intercultural events, presenting their Country. They also managed the languange tandem learing, involving local and international youth people: these meetings enabled volunteers to improve their language skills while enhancing their competences in the own mother tongue. Due to these initiatives the young volunteers deepened their social skills together with their cultural awareness and expression. During their service the volunteers proposed and realized their own individual project: Aline offered support to the young local artists of the network called GAI (Giovani Artisti Italiani) realising video interviews in the frame of an art window developed in Padova; Angel arranged a graphic novel course in school for developing historic theme with the students. Together the volunteers planned and realized a PREZY document for the presentation of youth mobility proposals for young people to be developed with the Erasmus Plus programme. This project allowed a best comprehension of the possibilities the young people have in the frame of European youth mobility. The results of the project can be measured also on the good interaction between the local population and the volunteers, which contributed to the well understanding of other cultures, enforcing the respect toward other ways of thinking and their openness toward the possibility to collaborate with different people, learning one from each other. On a long term perspective we consider our project a great opportunity for youth to learn about their passions but also to understand their role in society, experiencing first hand active participation, and taking it as a model for their future personal and professional life. Moreover, as it usually happens, the volunteers learnt the EU opportunities and the projects they could apply for and develop, for themselves or for other young peoplea, as a multiplying effect. Aline and Angel have been involved in the pre-departure training, offering their testimony and also their new skills (foreign language, interculturality, human relation, organisation, problem solving, digital technology, etc.) to other young volunteers or students, inspiring them to follow their steps with EU opportunities. The adopted methodology refferred to the non-formal education and the learning by doing process, based on the active involvement of the volunteers in each proposed activity.
