The LVR-Johanniterschule Duisburg is a school for blind and partially sighted pupils from birth up to 16 years. The school education staff consists of teachers, trainees and student teachers. They are expected to enhance their skills and competences in planning, creating and constructing resources for these children. They ought to use the technology of 3D printing.The staff is also supposed to acquire skills and knowledge in using technical aids for the blind such as tablets with VoiceOver or similar screen reading programmes because at present the teachers are not sufficiently familiar with their use.Two teachers shall take part in job shadowing at two institutions in two European neighbouring countries to acquire a solid basic hard- and software knowledge. We want to initialize a close cooperation between the involved institutions during the project period and a further exploitation and consolidation of this specialized knowledge beyond the project period itself.Our whole staff benefits from the working experiences and results e.g. in our conferences and on our school's learning management system. We intend a regular dissemination in the local press, in the periodical of our professional association and in the eTwinning community. As the enactive (action-based) stage of representation is the most important way of learning for a blind person, the 3D printing is a forward-looking technology because it allows to work with cheap objects produced promptly and as often as needed. These individual productions and the correct handling of electronic and technical aids are the most important basis of effecting a good start and education for a full and effective participation during entire school life, and inclusion in society and in the field of work. This project shall ensure that the educational staff of the LVR-Johanniterschule will be well trained and qualified to fulfill sustainably and long-lasting its mission towards visually impaired pupils.
