Gender in Kindertagesstätten - starke Mädchen, starke Jungen für Europa
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The school Marianum Hegne is a private school in patronage of the catholic church and offers different educations. The vocational training offers the possibility to become a state-approved nursery teacher. The mobility project provides students during their penultimate year of training a chance to collect working experience in a kindergarten or pre-school in Plymouth/UK or Linz/Austria. Thirteen of our students aged 18 to 26 absolved a traineeship abroad. Ten of them in Plymouth/UK and three in Linz/Austria. One aim of the mobility project is to foster professional competence including the comparison of educational concepts of the homeland with those of the host country. The main focus of the project is "Gender in early childhood education" and the concrete conversion of a gender-sensitive education. During the traineeship each student has to plan and carry out an educational activity for a group of children at the kindergarten abroad. This should be followed by a joint reflection between the trainee and his/her mentor. At the end of the traineeship the mentor is asked to fill in a questionnaire to evaluate the professional, social and personal competence of the trainee. The increase of personal and social competence is a further aim of the mobility project. The participants have to rely almost on themselves while preparing and organizing their whole stay abroad. So, this offers the possibility of personal growth in organizational skills, communication and team competence. After return of the participants, the traineeship and the results are reflected and evaluated together with the project coordinator. An additional evaluation is carried out by the headmaster of the Marianum Hegne and the project coordinator in consideration of the participants reports. The students present their experiences and results all other students of the school. They also write an article in the school magazine "Marianumsbrief". This way and by publishing the project on the website, it is presented to a broad public. Thus, the consciousness should be focused on the European dimension of early childhood education and stimulate the interest of other students and institutions. All participants benefit from their experiences during their traineeship abroad - especially with regard to their professional and personal competence. By realization of the mobility project, the school Marianum Hegne contributes to improving the quality of the vocational training for nursery teachers.
