The Youth Exchange project Gender in Construction aims to give women and LGBTQ persons access and possibilities for participation in the building sector.The building sector in all of Europe is still highly dominated by men, while very few women and LGBTQ persons apply for an education in the field of crafts. The ones who do often experience discrimination/not meeting an inclusive community.Gender in Construction is being planned, carried out and evaluated by young people from the association Makvärket (DK), which among other topics works practically and theoretically with gender and construction, and young travelling crafts persons (D). 55 participants between the age of 18 and 30 from Germany and Denmark spend 16 in the seminar facilities of Makvärket.The program consists of theoretical and practical workshops which investigate and challenge gender issues of the building sector in a safe environment for learning. The participants are empowered to counteract discrimination, promote tolerance and equality, and learn basic construction skills.Education methods are primarily involving, as in different kinds of group work.The project empowers the participants towards contributing to an inclusive building sector/an inclusive society.Creating a less gender segregated society has a great potential for increasing employment and quality of life.
