Start date: Dec 31, 2015, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Digital literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share, and create content using information technologies and the Internet. It is an important topic because technology is changing faster than society is. It can be defined as a survival skill in the digital era. Digital literacy involves more than the ability to use software and social media or operate digital devices such as interactive white boards, tablets and smart phones; it includes a large variety of complex cognitive, motor, sociological, and emotional skills, which users need in order to function effectively in digital environments. Future schools and job opportunities will be different like the society and individuals as well. Being digitally literate is like studying with a personalized tutor. In this condition, students will be able to program their learning. Teachers must improve their digital literacy skills to make this type of learning possible and create more educated digital citizens. With the help of these skills students are going to understand how to interact with the world and participate in digital environments. Our project called “Creating Future’s Digital Citizens” has been started to be conducted to make our students more prepared to the future in the context of acquiring lifelong learning abilities by individualized approaches in 21st century as mentioned the digital era in which today’s literate people described the ones who can use the technology appropriately, produce information and also know where and how to get the right information. Our aim is to learn how to use our technological devices more effectively and then convey the knowledge to our colleagues and students and also the public of our district. We will be enrolled a new period which education will be modified both academically and institutionally in our participant schools. At the same time, with mobile devices education is going to take place at outdoors and be mobile, too. By means of this project, the digital transformation in our schools’ education is going to be understood not as a short term revolution but as a long term evolution. On the other hand the participants’ prejudice -if there is- will be vanished. They will be encouraged to know different cultures and they will discover how to be a citizen of the world in globalized world. Besides the participants will have the opportunity to practice their English in convenient environment. The participants are school principals, assistant principals, counsellor teachers and teachers of other branches. All participants are eager to learn and apply these skills to their teaching and counselling approaches. At the end of this project, our teachers who will be improved their digital literacy skills will help their students in order to study on projects, use technological devices and internet more effectively and shape their own learning processes. Information sessions, workshops, online training courses, seminars are going to be held; leaflets, booklets and reports are going to be published. E-twinning and social media are going to be used to reach colleagues, students and public.
