The “Deaf-Association of Munich and its Surrounding represents the interests of all deaf people and Deaf-organizations in Munich and Munich´s urban surroundings. It is its aim to support deaf persons in the fields social welfare, politics, employment market, health care, education and society.It provides information for the deaf (the publications (newsletters, internet videos) are read and used all over Germany). Additionally it makes several services available as for example an Agency for interpreters for the deaf, the Relay Service TEKOS, a social service, a school to learn sign language or the barrier-free visual media production spectrum 11. Furthermore it supports the participation and joint responsibility of deaf people.The Deaf in all countries and societies are a unique linguistic and cultural minority. For that reason, it is our aim to support und supply the European exchange of deaf people. We want to offer the opportunity for deaf volunteers to get to know the German spoken and sign language, the German culture of the deaf and the work and the offers of our organisation. So we want to support him/her to think in the european context and offer the opportunity to develop new prospects. Additionally we want to supply the volunteer to collect experience in different sectors and, if required to find a new professional orientation.Our Organisation wants to gain insight into the sign language and the political and social situation of deaf people in the country of our partner and therefore expand our perspective. Our Deaf Organisation is able to host one volunteer. For a big part of our staff is deaf, the volunteer has to be able to communicate in Sign Language. We would like to foster the European exchange of deaf young people.The volunteer shall be incorporated in different areas and projects of our association. Staying 12 months, he/she should gain insight into each of the following sectors and stay there about 2-3 months and he/she should play a part.- School to learn sign language- Our Services: Agency for Interpreters, Relay Service- Barrier-free media production- Support Groups / Service for Munich citizens and Social Service- Project for migrants and refugeesThe volunteer will have the opportunity to learn additionally to the German Spoken Language the German Sign Language. A deaf volunteer gets special support when learning the German Spoken Language.The experiences and results of the project are published written and signed on different platforms. With this project, we want to strengthen and support long termed and for the future the European exchange of deaf people. With our publication we intend to supply the knowledge and the awareness of deaf and hearing people concerning the Deaf in other european countries.
