Gazte Astea
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Feb 28, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Gazte Astea (Youth Week) is an initiative thought to build bridges between young people and local administration It is developped in a crisis situation , which not only adversely affects the living conditions of young people , but also the image they may have of the admnistration . To this problem, we can add the great ignorance that young people have about the existing channels of participation, and consequently, the inefficiency of them. Therefore, these would be the main objectives of the project: making the work developped day to day by young people visible, encouraging and strengthening relationships between people and groups of young people, to publicize the spaces and tools of participation offered by the City Council in the field of youth , and collect the proposals that young people make and translate them to technical staff and policy makers. Participants are divided into three profiles : • 30 young people from various youth organizations (political, social , cultural, migrants, functional diversity ... ) , • Youth Service technicians and • political representatives of each political party with representation in the City Hall. The main activity of the project is framed in the celebration of a Youth Week in which we want to involve as many young people as possible, through workshops , debates , conferences , exhibitions ... As part of the event will be held an open meeting ( called Hiruburu ) among young , technical and politicians to address a number of issues which are going to be established in the preparatory phase of the project. The methodology will be based on a structured dialogue , since it makes it possible to create a real bridge of communication and support among stakeholders. With this, in all activities organized during the week, mailboxes and panels will be available , so that every young person can add their proposal, and informative brochures based on the tools and opportunities to participate in local public policies will be distributed. But the project is not limited to the Youth Week , as it requires previous preparation and subsequent evaluation and dissemination of results Regarding the results and expected impact on young participants and the local community, the following results are expected : • The strengthening of relationships between groups of young people and responsible agents of youth policy • The encouraging of youth participation through networking and strengthening of formal - informal networks, to strengthen young people being active citizens • Jointly propose new spaces for participation , collaboration and working among young people, agents of youth and reponsible agents for youth policy • Puting into value the participation, volunteering, community work and militancy carried out by active young people, creating indicators for it visualization, so that if necessary, support or motivation measures can be available and finally • The consolidation and refinition of the Youth Council of the Basque Country, as an structured agent of dialogue between young people, technicians and youth-policy responsibles, as well as the implementation of public policies. In the long term, this project could facilitate mutual understanding and cooperation between young people and agents working in the field of youth, in order to design proper public policies following the needs of this sector of the population.
