GaW gibt Gas - Qualitätssteigerung im Englischunterricht durch die individuelle Förderung und Ausgestaltung der neuen Kernlehrpläne der Oberstufe
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

At the moment our English staff at Gymnasium am Waldhof is confronted with a number of subject-specific requirements. On the one hand we are obliged to provide classes that both challenge advanced students and support weaker students while learning English. On the other hand, we have to offer a competency-based yet methodologically differentiated instruction for increasingly heterogeneous learning groups. Therefore, the applicants feel the need to obtain further qualification in order to improve the current scope of responsibilities professionally. Therefore, the applicants declared it their goal to increase the quality of teaching English as a foreign language at their school through • the further development of the school's English curriculum (secondary I and II level) • the further development of the concept of individual support for the student body at Gymnasium am Waldhof. Furthermore, the applicants aim to broaden their methodological repertoire while at the same time practicing and expanding their English language skills. The three applicants have the necessary experience and basic knowledge for their project, e.g. • through the continued participation in school development and control groups (steering groups) • through the development of the school's English curriculum for the secondary II level • through their work as an advisory teacher for the secondary II-level students and as leaders / deputy leaders of the English Teaching Conference • by collecting experience with bilingual teaching (English) as a module in Biology In addition, the applicants wish to expand their skills for the newly implemented curriculum requirements of competence and output orientation in their English classes, enabling them to offer a carefully structured concept for challenging and supporting their students. Considering this perspective, the applicants intend to participate in the following seminars • "Technology Enhanced Learning" (05th-16th October, 2015) • "Spice up your Teaching Ideas – Methodology in Practice Today" (05th – 09th October, 2015 und 01st – 05th August, 2016). The applicants will use the newly acquired skills and knowledge for the further design of the English curriculum for the secondary II level. They will also develop the concept of individual support in secondary I level classes (years 5-9) with the aim of improving results in central diagnostic tests (for year 8). The applicants will act as multipliers for the knowledge gained in the seminars for the English teaching staff at their school and their Personal Development Action Plans will be evaluated continuously. They are convinced that the skills obtained in these seminars will have a positive effect on their students´ learning experiences.
