From Great-Britain to Spain

5 students had the opportunity to do a work placement abroad in the European Community in Spain and Great-Britain 1.Background and history Lycée Tristan Bernard is a vocational school. Students get business studies training and qualifications. There a large amount of students who get grants due to low family income. The aim of the vocational school is to allow its students to do a work placement abroad in order to give them the opportunity to start a better professional life. This Erasmus + program has been led since 2014. 5 students from ‘’baccalauréat professionnel ‘’ classes (Btech) have applied and have been offered the opportunity to do a training period in Great-Britain and Spain. In our vocational school, we encourage our students to go abroad. Indeed, it is a very good way to improve languages and also train. Being a European citizen, being open-minded to the world sound fundamental nowadays. 2. The aims Students have aimed language, professional, civilization and behavior goals through the project -languages: oral practice, understanding, written comprehension and expression in English or in Spanish, fluency -professional skills: ability to do a job, share knowledge and experience, improve abilities -civilization: discovering of a foreign coutry, history, culture, arts, habits, natural and urban environment -behavior: socializing, being tolerant, being open-minded, ability to fit with habits and manners abroad. 3. The participants Five students did a work placement in Great-Britain and Spain. 4 of them prepared Btech receptionist, one of them prepared Btech salesrepresentative. Great-Britain: 3 students preparing Btech receptionist did a four-week training period in November/December 2014 Spain: 2 students preparing BTech receptionist and salesrepresentative did a four-week training period in March/April 2016. 4.The tasks Great-Britain : Two students did their internship at a hotel/inn/pub. They welcomed the customers at the hotel reception and restaurant. Another student did his work experience at a family run shoe shop. The team enjoyed having him there. The customers trusted him. Spain: Two students did their internship on one hand at a make-up , body care and hair care shop, on the other hand at a shoe shop. They were both invited to be part of the teams.Their managers and customers trusted them. 5.The impacts The students were assessed by their supervisors and by their teachers. The official assessment grids have been used as well as Europass document. They all wrote a work placement report then did a presentation which was assessed by the languages teachers and also business studies teachers. In June 2015 two students out of three passed their ‘’baccalauréat professionnel, European class”. The students who did their work placement in Spain have just taken baccalauréat exam. 6. Long-term advantages For young people doing a work a work placement abroad is necessary to prepare the future. Speaking foreign languages is basic nowadays to get a job and also being able to reach a better position in a firm. One of the students is currently a receptionist at a hotel in Paris. Before that he worked at an airport hotel. Experience abroad is a professional and linguistic advantage and also shows a good example of success.
