French Language Training
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

As a result of the push towards introducing languages to younger children in Scottish schools and introducing a second foreign language in addition to this for older children (the 1+2 scheme), we feel that ensuring we have appropriately qualified teachers with confidence and skills to drive this development forward is essential. By giving the participant the opportunity to increase her own skills and confidence with a view to her disseminating her learning and knowledge of resources to the rest of our staff, we will be well-placed to meet the challenges of the 1+2 scheme. Our main aim is to provide a high quality teaching and learning programme in line with national, local and curricular developments and to establish links with other schools, nationally or from abroad to enhance our learning and teaching in European languages. We have been delivering basic conversational French teaching within the guidelines of the curriculum to date, but feel that with the breadth and depth of experience that can be gained from the immersion experience, we have an opportunity to develop French contexts and embed them within our learning and school environment. The opportunity to extend the use of ICT in presenting and research should be enhanced with teacher confidence and communication with European partners could be encouraged through a variety of different mediums; blogs, skype etc. This is an opportunity for me to expand my personal knowledge and understanding of how to deliver meaningful and engaging language learning and teaching with a view to further developments in the future. I also hope to encourage others to participate in the scheme.
