FRAMEWORK - Quality in Mobility Projects - Framework for the preparation, Recognition, Assessment, Mentoring, and Evaluation of the WORK placement period in higher education

The project builds upon a range of current and previously funded Leonardo da Vinci Mobility projects, known as Leotour, which have allowed the placement of more than 350 European tourism students since 1996. Having identified the needs of and obstacles to mobility, the project aims at developing a standardised European work placement support framework (tool), which will cover the full lifecycle of placement tasks and will emphasise the critical role played by work based learning in the vocational curriculum. This multi-lingual tool is to be web-based and expects to provide students with a personal development plan, which they will self-construct and which will be supported through a programme of mentoring. Individual matching between students and placement opportunities will be better assured through a skills oriented work placement database containing comprehensive data on the placement organisation in addition to cultural and social aspects of the country to be visited. Formal ECTS validation will further allow transnational recognition of work-based learning. Target groups for the project are students in Higher Education (particularly Business Studies students) and individual business enterprises offering periods of work-based learning. The tourism sector has been selected for the piloting of the tool however beyond the lifetime of the project, it is planned that use of the developed tool be extended to students and organisations representing other sectors. Dissemination will be a joint activity by all project partners and will take place throughout the project lifetime. Partner colleges will be responsible for the circulation of information on project developments and results, within their own country, to existing educational and business oriented networks. All partners will be further responsible for promoting use of the new tool to those responsible for Leonardo da Vinci mobility projects in their own country.
