Frame It
Start date: May 24, 2016, End date: Sep 23, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Frame It 2016 is a two-way youth-exchange centered around bringing together 16 youth from Iceland and Portugal and engaging them in a creative process. Ultimately the aim is to guide participants through the process of creating their own collaborative performance. Participants will come together, learn about each other's cultures and each other's artforms through workshops and cultural visits, and engage in discussions about their role as youth in their communities and the challenges they face. Throughout the exchanges, participants will take part in various artistic workshops, team-building exercises and a performance. The project begins in the end of May, when participants start taking preparatory classes once a week in their respective countries. During this time, participants will engage in debates, do improvisation exercises and set up an online platform for communicating between countries. In July the group from Iceland will join the group in Portugal for an 10-day exchange during which the performance will be created and performed. This exchange is a great opportunity for young artists to hone their skills and take part in a collaborative artistic process. Participants will not only gain confidence in themselves and their decision-making skills but also feel a sense of accomplishment by sharing responsibility for creating a performance that will be performed for the local community. Moreover, participants will be introduced to another culture and another artform, gain language competencies in English, build team-work skills and learn to be open to other work-methods and opinions. In the long-run, we hope all of our participants will feel more confident to travel in Europe, make independent decisions and to explore methodologies and collaborations outside of their artforms. The dissemenation of the project is through public performances during the exchanges and through videos that will be posted to both partner organization's websites.
