Fostering Innovation Skills as Key Competences for improving Employability of PhDs in SMEs
Start date: Jan 1, 2014,

The application of more advanced forms of ICT based learning and assessment methodologies for innovation skills is a field that needs to be explored in Europe and mainly at Higher Education level. This project aims to contribute to the development of innovation skills (i-skills) of PhD students and doctoral holders by developing an advanced e-assessment methodology (immersive game) that can be implemented in formal (i.e. higher education), non-formal and informal learning contexts (i.e. work) in order to promote the employability opportunities of these individuals in SMEs. The main products of the project will be: a framework of i-skills validated by SMEs, a i-skills immersive game for assessing and fostering these skills at formal and informal learning contexts and a toolkit for i-skills facilitators. All these outcomes will be translated to the language versions of the partners (ES, FI, DE, PT and EL). Partners will create a webbased community of practitioners in the field of new ICT, skills assessment and doctoral studies (>300 members) that will become the sustainability community of practice after the project lifecycle. Moreover, 5 national workshops and a final teleconference will be organized for valorization of project´s products at national and European level. On the short term, PhD students/doctoral holders/HE teachers and HRM staff at SMEs will benefit from access to an innovative and user friendly immersive game that will enable them to foster their (or other learners') innovation skills in any learning context. On the long term it is expected that the transfer/mobility of PhDs from an academic context to a business context will increase and that SMEs can improve their innovation capacity and competitiveness as result of having more qualified human capital.
