PROJECT
FINISHED
"Ireland" is the new topic in the coming A-levels. To prepare the teachers for this topic it is planned to join a 14-days-teacher training in Dublin. The Irish school there offers a course called "Immersion in Irish History, Culture and Literature for Non-Native Teachers of English 2014". Not only this training course but also staying in the country itself should help the teachers to get an idea of the Irish way of life. In addition, they can improve their language knowledge and check whether the are able to deal with the "Irish English". The immersion in the language is increased by the possibility to stay in a guest family, where the participants also get an idea of Irish cooking.
The aim of this training is to improve the teachers´ motivation and to hopefully show them new ways of using methodology and didactics in the classroom. The personal experience of the country might help the teachers here.
In addition, the language school organizes excursions, city tours and cultural events, which make it possible for the participants to get a better idea of Ireland, its history and its current problems.
It is planned for five experienced teachers of the Leibniz privat school to take place in this project as they all teach in secondary education. The training is supposed to improve their knowledge and their motivation to pass it on to the students.
In addition it is planned to increase the contact with the school in Dublin so that in the future a regluar student exchange within the English speaking European borders might take place.
The teachers participating in this project - which takes place during the school holidays - receive a certificate of attendance after they have finished the training.
